APEC Reverse Osmosis Filter Replacement Guide
Why Regular Filter Replacement Matters
Your APEC reverse osmosis system is like a car; regular oil changes and maintenance is required from time to time. The same idea applies to your water filters. Over time, they collect sediment, chlorine, and other contaminants. If they’re not replaced, your system can’t do its job, and the water won’t taste as fresh and clean. Regularly replacing your Water Filters keeps your APEC water filter system producing healthy and clean water. And, Using genuine APEC water filter parts means everything fits perfectly and works the way it should.
Filter Compatibility: Finding the Right APEC RO Filter
One of the biggest questions customers ask is: “Which filters do I need for my system?” The good news is that APEC makes it easy. Use the "Filter Finder" at the top of this page to easily find the right filter for your product. If you’re still not sure, check your user manual or APEC’s compatibility chart. Or, give us a call at: Contact Us
Filter Lifespan & Replacement Schedule
So, how often do you really need to change your filters? It depends on your water's quality and how much you use, but here’s a good starting point:
Sediment & carbon filters: Every 6–12 months
RO membrane: Every 3–5 years
Advanced Coconut Shell Refining Carbon (TCR): Every 3–5 years
If you're unsure of when to change your filter, check your system's user manual or give us a call! Staying on top of this keeps your water crisp, clean, and worry-free.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Even with new filters, sometimes things don’t go as smoothly as planned. Here are the most common hiccups (and quick fixes):
- Low water flow: Often means it’s time for a new RO membrane replacement.
- System keeps draining: Could be a worn auto shut-off valve or you might benefit from a permeate pump to balance water pressure.
- Bad taste or smell: Usually solved by flushing the system longer or replacing the carbon filter.
- Leaking faucet or fittings: Check the O-rings and connections
- Gurgling noises: A little is normal, but loud or ongoing gurgling can mean air in the system or an installation issue.

How do I know which filters to buy?
Use the "Filter Finder" to find the right filter for your water filtration system. Or, you can check your product's user manual or Contact Us.
Can I use non-APEC filters?
Using certified APEC reverse osmosis filters ensures you’re getting the exact parts designed for your unit. Genuine filters are tested for performance, longevity, and safety. With non-APEC filters, you risk leaks, reduced water quality, or shorter filter life. For best results, stick with the originals.
What should I do with my old filters?
Used filters should be disposed of with regular household trash. Since they’ve trapped contaminants, they can’t be recycled for reuse in water filtration. If you’d like to minimize environmental impact, check with your local waste facility to see if there are special disposal programs in your area.
