Salt Based water softener calculation guide = The average family uses 70-75 gallons of water per person per day. For a household of four, you will need to soften about 300 gallons of water daily. For example, if your water hardness is rated 10 grains per gallon, you will need to remove 3000 grains per day (300 gallons x 10 grains). Based on your water softener that regenerates on average every seven days, your minimum softener capacity would be 21000 grains (3000 grains x 7 days).

*Chlorine 1ppm or over is recommended to be removed before the salt softener.

"The install is pretty straight forward. Would be nice to have individual valves rather than one knob controlling inlet and outlet. If it would have two valves then I could have kept the house or outlet shut. Opened the inlet and back flush at initial start up to flush resin beads through and out the drain. The resin beads clogged the kitchen sink automatic valve, dishwasher valve line, had to change the under sink RO filters due to resin beads. The line fittings for the brine lines could be better had to replace since lines wouldn’t tighten enough to keep lines on. One brine fitting to the main head broke with just finger tightening. House psi is 70 so line fittings for brine could be better. Other than that the system works great we also have the under sink RO system that’s great also. Install suggestion if I had known I would have not hooked up to house inlet and made a hose line to flush resin beads before hooking feed line to the house water line."

Does the job

"Shipping containers were an absolute joke. The softener tank was simply tossed into a big box. Zero padding. Box had been destroyed multiple times before it made it to my home. UPS clearly had to repackage and tape the box multiple times. An extra item I ordered with the softener was shipping by itself in a huge box with zero padding. Amazing it was completely destroyed by the time it arrived. The instructions aren't always straight forward and often lacking clarification on installation. I had to call the company for clarification and I waited 24 minutes in a queue that told me my estimated wait time was 1 minute! All in all seems to be a good product but shipping and instructions lacking."

Broken on Arrival

"I placed my order for the Memorial day weekend sale, and the first time my tank arrived broken. I was told to file a claim since I purchased order protection, and then had a second tank sent to me, which also arrived broken, media spilled all over, and had to be re-wrapped in a bag by UPS. UPS definitely could have handled the package better, but there was no padding around the tank, which made it easy for it to be damaged. I requested another tank, as this was unusable, and was simply given a refund stating that they could not replace it again. I would avoid this, and just buy where you can pick it up yourself locally instead of being shipped. Too fragile and poor packaging to be shipped."

Missing Parts and Difficult Customer Service

"I have been buying APEC products for years, but this may be the last time. The system came with missing parts. Rather than send me the parts, they suggested I go buy the parts which they assured me would be available at any hardware store. I went to Home Depot and Ace and the parts were not available as the APEC components are proprietary. I then confirmed they would send me the parts, and have been trying to get confirmation ever since. Multiple reps assured me they would call me back immediately, only to ghost me and never call back. I asked for a supervisor and they couldn't even get a supervisor on the phone. To make matters worse, I called with a concern about one of the connections they provided me and was assured it would hold the tube in place, but it did not and the brine tank overflowed as a result. Very poor experience. Unfortunate, as I really liked APEC before this."

Can't say enough about how well this works

"I was having a tough time with psoriasis and moderately hard water where I live. Once the the Hydro Express 45 was installed, after a couple of days, I saw a very noticeable difference in the water in that it was smoother on the skin, hair, and even clothes feel softer. I would say 90% of my psoriasis symptoms are just completely gone since having this system installed 2 months ago. My dermatologist asked what I was using for my skin and it's no prescription any longer, just soft, clean, water. My install--I had a plumber do it since I wanted it in the garage and the main line was outside so he had to run a line into the garage and then the drain went up along the ceiling and out the garage to water main outlet. The instructions, from what I read, are very straight forward and include pictograms to help with installation in addition to written instructions. I've been extremely happy with this purchase and wish I'd done it sooner. Even my wife, who has no skin issues, loves how soft her skin and hair feel now. Even our cat feels softer after giving her a bath since the system was installed ! Do yourself a favor and get one for your home, you'll be glad you did."
