1st Stage: High-Grade 10 micron 10 Inch high-capacity pleated polyester sediment filter - bacteria and chemical resistant and provide great dirt holding capacity to extend the time between cartridge change outs. It also prevent sediment from building up and clogging the filters and the system.

Use this for NYC apartments
"Don't bother buying the regular stage 1-3 that comes with the RO-90. It will stop working in less than 3 months due to the dirty pipes in NYC. I was recommended by customer service to use this specialized GAC filters and I haven't had a problem since with clogging. As in no clean water coming out due to the fact that the water filter clogged.I had the RO-90 for 7 years now and there was this one year I forgot and bought the regular ones via amazon when I had to change all 5 filters and it reconfirm the clogging with the original filters (stage 1-3). Don't make the same mistake as I did and go this this one. I just wish this was sold on Amazon as well since shipping is a bit pricey for this filter."
